In 1920 or 1921 he was involved in "the troubles" and his mother "hid him and his clothes in a ditch". Whether he was hiding from the British or the I.R.A is unknown.. He arrived in Ellis Island on February 19, 1921 at the age of 23, via the ship "Celtic", sailing out of Liverpool, England. The ship manifest references his sister, Mary Casey, at 179 Park Street in Lawrence. It also states that he was in possession of at least $50, that he stood 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with fair hair and complexion and brown eyes. |
